Simplex Receives Japanese STC for AW139 Fire Attack System

Portland, OR, USA - March 29, 2012

Simplex Aerospace has received a Japanese STC for its Fire Attack system on an AgustaWestland AW139.  The STC, No. STC-380-TYO, was issued on March 12, 2012.  The STC will be used to install the new Simplex Aerospace Fire Attack™ system on three firefighting helicopters in Japan.

The Simplex Aerospace tanks are the first Japanese installations of a large backorder for the AW139 Fire Attack system.  The systems were installed in Japan by Mitsui Bussan, Simplex’s longtime representative for AgustaWestland products in Japan.

The new Simplex system features an interface to the helicopter's Multi Function Display (MFD), allowing the pilot to view the door opening and hover pump operation without the use of mirrors. Viewing the door operation and hover pump position on the aircraft MFD enhances safety in fire fighting operations.  The system also features Simplex’s industry leading door design.  The Simplex door design allows wheeled aircraft to carry large amounts of water without risk of door contact with the ground.  The Simplex door design also delivers the best possible drop pattern, making the AW139 a very effective fire fighting aircraft.

Mark Zimmerman, President and CEO of Simplex Aerospace, commented that the new Fire Attack system for the AW139 is “The latest of several research and development projects to reach completion.   The new Japanese STC will be followed by several other new products for the fire fighting industry”.
